Right then! That is all we have from this match but the action in the CSA T20 Challenge continues as Titans take on Warriors in the second game of the day. That one begins at 6 pm IST (12:30 pm GMT). Do join us then. Cheers!
Wayne Parnell, the skipper of Western Province, says that it wasn't a perfect game for them but they played well and he is happy with the win. Tells that one has to be smart in the end overs playing at this venue and they did a great job.
George Linde is the BOWLER OF THE MATCH for his figures of 4-0-13-2. He says that he is just happy to be playing cricket again and enjoyed it today. He adds that he knows that he is one of the senior players and can't make any excuses for slipping up and has to set an example for the younger players. Mentions that all the senior players and coaching staff gave him the confidence to perform well today.
Richard Levi is the BATTER OF THE MATCH for his sensational knock of 67 runs off 39 balls. He says that it is good to be back and he had his team's backing. Tells that he was gutted to not finish the game but the other batters did well to get them over the line.
... Presentation Ceremony ...
A good pitch to bat on and Rocks' bowlers had not many runs to defend. Still, Hardus Viljoen gave them a great start as he picked up two wickets early on in the Powerplay. After that though, no other bowler backed up Viljoen's efforts and the opposition had it easy in the middle overs. Viljoen then came back to break the stand between Levi and Vilas but the damage had already been done. In the end, Rocks succumbed to a hammering defeat and will now look to put this game behind them and focus on their next match.
With Western Province bowlers doing a great job, it was up to a couple of batters to get decent scores and the job would be done. That is exactly what they managed to do. After losing Bird and Kaplan early, Richard Levi and Dane Vilas added 54 runs for the third wicket and Levi was the aggressor. Vilas got out but Levi went on to make a roaring comeback to South African cricket with a blistering knock of 67. Aviwe Mgijima then came out and smashed it to all parts and along with George Linde, saw them through with as many as 3 overs to spare. Overall, a commanding victory for Western Province.
Western Province have strolled through the opening match of the CSA T20 Challenge 2022 and are up and running in the competition. Rocks have been completely outplayed here and they never even seemed to be in the contest.
