That is it then from this game and the 2023 edition of The Hundred has got off to an exciting start. On Wednesday, the 2nd of August, we have a doubleheader lined up with once again both the Men's and Women's teams in action. For the Men's competition, it will be Welsh Fire taking on Manchester Originals at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and that game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). This will be followed by an encounter between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles at Lord's in London beginning at 11 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT). Our build-up for of those games will begin a lot sooner, so, do join us for all the action. Take care and goodbye!
Sam Hain is the Hero of the Match for his match-winning inning. He says that he is delighted with a victory and such games at the top help a lot. Adds that he was just trying to build a partnership as it was really tough to score against such quality bowling but Imad Wasim helped him well. Adds that the team is absolutely fantastic and they were aiming to start well and no better way to start off with a victory against the home crowd.
The Presentation ceremony...
At the toss, James Vince asked Trent Rockets to bat first and this seemed like a great decision as the opening bowlers of Southern Brave did a lot of damage inside the Powerplay. George Garton and Craig Overton were brilliant and the likes of Rehan Ahmed and Tymal Mills bowled decently as well. It was Chris Jordan who picked up three wickets and bowled a sensational final over. As for the Rockets, their top order faltered badly but Sam Hain played a magical knock and he was really well supported by Imad Wasim and it was their partnership that in the end proved to be the difference maker. Coming to the chase, a fairly small target was well defended by some excellent bowling and Trent Rockets gave everyone a glimpse of why they are the reigning champions.
Southern Brave will be highly disappointed with that batting effort and they never really looked in control. Finn Allen and Devon Conway got some runs at the top of the order but did so quite sluggishly. The top 3 fell in quick succession and the middle order seemed under pressure. Leus du Plooy kept the hopes alive as Tim David was unable to fire up either. Once they got into the tailenders, they had a lot to do but Chris Jordan played a brilliant cameo to almost turn the tables but he too caught out toward the end and the Brave fell short by 6 runs.
What a way to kick off The Hundred Men, 2023 competition! We have had an absolute classic between the past two champions and in the end, the home side Trent Rockets have just about clinched it. With just 133 runs on the board on a ground where 150 is a par score, the Rockets needed a big performance with the ball and the bowlers certainly delivered. Luke Wood was brilliant at the start but was unlucky not to get a wicket then. Skipper Lewis Gregory and Imad Wasim picked up some quick wickets in the middle overs but it was Daniel Sams who got the wickets and most importantly bowled a superb final over to win the game for his team.

OUT! PLUMB IN FRONT OF THE STUMPS! Yorker right on the off-pole, Tymal Mills moves to his off looking to ramp this over the short fine leg fielder but fails to get any part of his bat behind this as the ball has bumped into his shoes. The batters do run for a single but the fielding side has asked for a review. Nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking suggests that the ball would have clattered into the middle and the umpire has been asked to give this OUT. Trent Rockets have successfully defended 133 runs as they win here by 6 runs.
Tymal Mills walks out to bat now.

OUT! RUN-OUT! Full toss in middle, Craig Overton edges this towards the deep square leg region for a couple but Luke Wood was quick to it and he throws right near the stumps making it easy for Tom Kohler-Cadmore to remove the bails in no time at all. Craig Overton is short of his crease and he has to depart.

Wide! OH DEAR ME! Fuller one wide down leg, Craig Overton leaves it as the umpire signals wide.
Craig Overton is in next.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! This is an absolute beauty of a delivery to get rid of the dangerous-looking Chris Jordan. Slower one bang on the roots of the off-pole, Chris Jordan looks to drive and plays the stroke early as the ball sneaks underneath his bat and removes the off-pole from the ground.

Yorker in middle, Chris Jordan pushes this towards mid on with the fielder pushed back at long on and takes a couple. Smart bit of batting here.

Fuller one in the line of stumps, Rehan Ahmed drills this powerfully back towards the bowler.

Brilliant bit of bowling as Sam Cook takes all the pace off this one and lands this on a length outside off, deceiving the batter.

Leg bye. Fuller one sliding down leg, Chris Jordan looks to flick it but ends up clipping his pads for a single towards the off side. The cut-off time has caught up with Trent Rockets and they will now have to bring one boundary rider up inside the cirlce.
