Right then, that is all we have from the second season of The Hundred. It has been a fascinating tournament and this new format of the game has surely caught the imagination of cricket fans around the world. Congratulations again to Trent Rockets for winning the trophy this season and also Oval Invincibles Women who won the Women’s Hundred earlier. It has been a pleasure to bring you all the coverage of The Hundred and we shall be back with some more flair and finesse in the next season. However, if you want some more dose of high-octane action, then you don’t have to wait that long as India will take on Pakistan in the Super Four Stage of Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday, the 4th of September. That game will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Our build-up for that game will begin in advance. Do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Dawid Malan is up for a quick chat. He claims that winning is more far more important than all the runs he has scored in the tournament. Admits that things have worked out for them this year and they were able to get their combinations right. Mentions that the wicket was really tricky and they are thrilled to get through. Says that the crowd has been unbelievable and the atmosphere is brilliant. Ends by saying that it is great feeling to win a tournament at the Home of Cricket.
Alex Hales is up for a chat. He says that he is lost for words and is exhausted with all the running around celebrating. He says that Dawid Malan has been outstanding throughout and set the tone for them at the start of the innings and that it is an pleasure for him to bat with him. Adds that he was very nervous at the end as he couldn't do much and was just hoping they get over the line. Credits Lewis Gregory for how he led the side to the title. He signs off by running towards his team for the trophy lift.
Lewis Gregory, the skipper of Trent Rockets says that it was nice to be there at the end and get over the line. Claims that the lads have been wonderful and they deserve this win. When asked about his plans he says that he was trying to hit the middle of the bat. Adds that they needed boundaries and he was able to get a couple away. Mentions that is it good when things go their way but gives credit to Manchester and says they played really well. Shares that the whole team has been outstanding with different people contributed towards this win. Admits that everyone struggled and could not get going and both set of bowlers bowled well. Ends by saying that it is an amazing place to play and to win a final. Mentions the outstanding crowd and the tournament.
Sam Cook is the HERO OF THE MATCH for his brilliant spell with the ball. He says that he is overwhelmed and it is an amazing feeling to clinch the title. Adds that he is glad that he didn't have to bat as he was nervous on the bench. He praises Lewis Gregory for how he finished the game and credits other batters too for their contributions. Mentions that they have a very good atmosphere around the team and that it is not only about the players but also about their families, coaches, and the support of the fans. Tell that Andy Flower is a great coach and won many competitions, and that made a difference in their performance and he led them to the title.
Time for some interviews....
In the first half of this game, Trent Rockets bowlers made life difficult for Manchester Originals batters. Sam Cook was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets and Samit Patel was also quite brilliant with his left-arm spin. However, the pitch was tricky and Ashton Turner and Tom Lammonby made some useful contributions to take Manchester Originals to a fighting total and we were then treated with an absolute low-scoring thriller to cap off The Hundred, 2022! Trent Rockets are the deserving champions and a hearty congratulations to their team and all their fans around the world.
Manchester Originals were let down by their batting but their bowlers did a fantastic job. The seamers bowled brillianty with the new ball and then spinners also made sure that they were never completely out of this game. Josh Little and Paul Walter especially should be credited for the way they bowled and got two wickets each and nearly pulled off a heist here but Richard Gleeson failed to execute his plans in the final set and that has brought a dream six-match winning streak of Manchester Originals to an end.
Taking about this chase, well it was quite a roller-coaster of a ride. Trent Rockets have a strong batting line-up but no one really managed to stay in the middle for long and they kept losing wickets. Hales was the one to go first and then Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Colin Munro all got starts but failed to kick on. However, those small contributions also turned out to be important. However, the man of the moment is Lewis Gregory, the skipper of Trent Rockets who kept pushing himself down the order but delivered when it mattered most by smashing 17 off just 6 balls to take his team to a famous victory here.
Manchester Originals did everything they could do to defend the under-par total they posted after batting first. They nearly got over the line but unfortunately for them, they have ended on a losing side but they should be proud of the effort they put throughout the tournament especially after losing some big players in the middle of their campaign.
Trent Rockets have clinched this cracker of a game and they are the winner of The Hundred, 2022! What a game this was, an absolute thriller and is truly worthy of being called a final of the superb tournament like The Hundred. It is the Trent Rockets skipper, Lewis Gregory who has held his nerves in the end and has taken his team over the line after they nearly made a mess of this chase in the last 15-20 balls or so.

That does it! Trent Rockets are the champions! Richard Gleeson bowls this full and outside off, Lewis Gregory strokes the ball into the offside and the fielder does not get to this. They rush across for a single and the Trent Rockets are out on the field celebrating. They win by 2 wickets and with just 2 balls to spare.

FOUR! SCORES ARE LEVEL! Richard Gleeson strays down leg this time. A full toss on the pads and Lewis Gregory helps this along its way and the ball races to fine leg for a boundary. This has been a captain's innings from Lewis Gregory and he is taking his team home.

SIX! Another twist in the tale! The skipper has come to the party. Richard Gleeson goes way too straight and on a fuller length, Lewis Gregory clips this with great timing towards the deep square leg boundary for a maximum. Trent Rockets are on top now all of a sudden.
Richard Gleeson will bowl the final five balls of The Hundred, 2022! 11 needed, here we go....

On a good length once again and in line with the stumps, Lewis Gregory mistimes his pull shot into the mid-wicket region. They rush for a couple of runs and make it in time. 11 runs are needed from the final 5 deliveries.

A full delivery, on middle, Luke Wood looks to heave it but hit it more from the inner half towards mid-wicket. However, there is no fielder there and the batters scampers back for the second. 11 runs needed in 5 balls now.
