Right then! That is it from the coverage of this game! The action from the Women's T20 Challenge continues on Thursday, 26th May, 2022 where Velocity will face Trailblazers. This clash will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But as you know, our build-up will begin well in advance. So make sure you tune in early. However, we have another cracking game coming up from the Indian T20 League where Gujarat are facing Rajasthan in the Qualifier 1. So switch tabs and enjoy the coverage from this mouth-watering fixture.
Deepti Sharma, the victorious skipper, says that their team was very confident and they had three good practice sessions. Adds that the wicket had something in it for the spinners, so she used more spinners. Tells that Sneh Rana has taught her some moves and they will be showing us some moves after taking wickets. Mentions that they executed their plans to perfection and the innings of Shafali Verma and the opening spell from Kate Cross proved to be the turning points of the match.
Shafali Verma is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. She says that as a team they planned to play till the end and capitalize on the loose balls and that’s what they aimed at. She says that she kept the windy nature in mind and played accordingly. Further says it was a brilliant wicket to bat on. Adds that she has prepared herself for two/three more shots and maybe we will be able to witness it in the next game.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of Supernovas, is in for a chat. She says they could not do well in the field and maybe because of that they could not win the game. Mentions, the way they started in the first six overs, they had to finish strong and is happy with the way they ended. Adds that the conditions were similar. Adds they could not keep the pressure on and that’s what took the game away from them. Further says they will have a look at the other fixture as well and will hope to come back stronger.
Supernovas did get an early breakthrough which was provided by Pooja Vastrakar but they failed to capitalize on the start and leaked a lot of runs after that. It was Deandra Dottin who got a couple of wickets to bring her side back into the contest but dropped catches didn't help Supernovas' cause. They had no answers to Shafali Verma's juggernaut and it was the first 6 overs where the momentum completely shifted in Velocity's favour.
Velocity are up and running and they have also registered the highest successful chase in the history of Women's T20 Challenge. It was Deepti Sharma's fiery knock of 51 runs off just 31 balls that set the tone for Velocity, and then it was the experience of Laura Wolvaardt that ensured that they chase down the total quite comfortably. Velocity were in a slight spot of bother when they lost a couple of wickets in quick succession in the middle overs but the fifties from Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt meant that Velocity hand a comprehensive defeat to Supernovas.
