That is all from this game. The action continues in the Caribbean Premier League as Guyana Amazon Warriors will face St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on 8th September at 7.30 pm IST (2.00 pm GMT). Do join us early for the build-up. Cheers!
Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Saint Lucia Kings says that it was a pressure game, but they finished off well and this is a huge win for them. Adds that they wanted to just have wickets in hand till the end as they knew they had a good batting depth and it would be difficult for the opposition to bowl with the wet ball as well. Ends by saying that the atmosphere was great.
Rovman Powell, the skipper of Jamaica Tallawahs says it wasn't easy to defend and credits Saint Lucia Kings to chase this down. Applauds the performance of Raymon Reifer. Feels the score was good enough but with the wet ball, it became hard to defend.
Johnson Charles is the Man of the Match. He says that it always feels good to win and it feels great to get their first win. Adds that he wanted to stay there and build partnerships even though he wanted to go hard. Mentions that the wicket was decent, but they had a good bowling attack. Further says that he feels amazing playing at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, the crowd has been amazing.
...Presentation coming up...
Earlier, Jamaica Tallawahs got to a good start but were suddenly 62/4 near the halfway mark. It was then a matured innings of Raymon Reifer that helped them post a respectable total. The King bowlers were decent and looked confident to chase it down. It became a bit nervy but the experience of David Wiese helped them to get their first points.
Jamaica Tallawahs will be disappointed to not get over the line. They had the game very much in control but failed to hold their nerves at the backend. The likes of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim were decent but they missed an experienced campaigner to help them out to defend the total.
A superb game we had! It was not until the final phase that Saint Lucia Kings came alive. Johnson Charles had to play the anchor role as wickets were falling at the other end. It was the all-rounders that helped them win the game. Charles combined with Tim David for 36 runs, and then with Roshon Primus for 39 runs, and set the right tone for the chase. In the end, it was David Wiese's unbeaten 20 that helped Saint Lucia Kings get off the mark in this competition.
What a match this was! An absolute thriller! The game was filled with ebbs and flows! Saint Lucia Kings had to fight hard for the two points but they finally opened their account. Jamaica Tallawahs will be gutted as they had the game in control, but they let it slip away towards the end.
