That concludes the proceedings here. On Friday, 5th August, Manchester Originals will be hosting Northern Superchargers in the third match of The Hundred, 2022. This contest will start at 11 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
Sam Billings, the captain of Oval Invincibles, starts by praising the fight from the lower-order batters. He admits that they played terribly but is impressed with the fightback. Feels that they were a bit rusty and hopes that this was the one bad performance of the top order out of the way. Also adds that they bowled too many extras. Talks about the atmosphere and thanks the crowd for all the support.
Eoin Morgan, the captain of London Spirit, starts by saying that he loves these kinds of games as they teach you how to cope under pressure. Mentions that he is happy to end on the right side of the result. Praises Oval Invincibles for the way they fought back. Feels that it's tough for the bowlers but if they execute the plans, it becomes easier. Shares that the plan on the last ball was to bowl it wide and take it away with the swing but it was not executed that way but he is happy with the win. Morgan talks about the atmosphere and compares it with the international games. Regarding his personal form, Morgan replies that he was rusty to start with and even took a blow on his body.
Player of the Match is Nathan Ellis for his three wickets. The Aussie says that there is no better way to start the season and feels it's unreal to get going with a win. Adds that the game was fast-paced, great atmosphere and it was a tight one. Mentions that it has happened very quickly for him in the last 18 months and he is still soaking it up. Terms Morgan's captaincy as unreal and calls him a calming influence.
London Spirit came out with fire and pegged their opponents on the back foot right away with the ball. Nathan Ellis and Jordan Thompson took a couple of wickets each at the start of the innings and it looked like it would be all over very soon. Once the spinners came on, it gave the batters time to settle into some rhythm after which they started scoring freely. Spirit will be a shade disappointed that they could not close the game out after the start they had, but a win is a win regardless of how you get it. Stay tuned for the presentation...
Oval Invincibles had a nightmarish start to the run chase. They lost Jason Roy on the first delivery and soon found themselves four down with just 12 runs on the board. Will Jacks, Sam Curran and Sam Billings - all departed in quick succession. Hilton Cartwright and Jordan Cox put together a 74-run partnership in just 48 balls to keep the Invincibles in with an outside chance. Once they departed, it seemed like it would be a tough task. Or so we thought! The lower-order batting of Oval Invincibles put up quite a show to take the game right down to the wire. Tom Curran and Danny Briggs played wonderful cameos to make this game a contest.
What a game we have witnessed here! Oval Invincibles have put up quite a show but in the end, it is the London Spirit who seized the last-ball thriller! The hosts seemed down and out but they fought to the very end and almost achieved the impossible.

EDGY FOUR! The crowd is going bonkers. Fuller in length and around off, Danny Briggs goes for a full-blooded drive but only manages an outside edge. It's wide of the keeper though and goes to the fence. 13 needed off 4 balls.
Jordan Thompson will bowl the last 5 balls of the innings. He has been brilliant so far conceding 19 runs in his 15 deliveries. Also, the cut-off time is reached, so London Spirit will have to keep 5 fielders inside the ring.
