Right then! That concludes the proceedings here. The fourth game of The Hundred will be on Saturday, 6th of August, Trent Rockets will be taking on Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge. That contest will start at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Northern Superchargers says the wicket was too paced but they have a long batting line-up and that's why they wanted to chase in this game. Adds that they did not take the time-out because they wanted the extra time but it did not turn out that way. Mentions that the last 7 to 8 balls were tough for them, especially with the extra fielder in. Further says they went hard in the Powerplay as he thought Manchester Originals were 10 runs over par. On David Wiese, he says that he is an experienced player who is only getting better.
Adam Lyth is the HERO OF THE MATCH! He says that they spoke about trying to take charge in the Powerplay, which they did but he feels great to get over the line at the end. Mentions that they had a good Powerplay, and it was a good finish in the end as well. Adds that last year wasn't too good for them but hopefully they be better this year. Ends by saying that it's good to start off with a win.
Time for some interviews...
Earlier in the game, Manchester got to a very good total in their allotted 100 balls with skipper Jos Buttler leading the way with his fifty. Northern Superchargers bowlers bowled well in the patches with Willey being the pick of the bowlers but gave away way too many runs at the death. However, Northern Superchargers skipper had the belief of chasing down the total at the toss and they have done it in style in the end.
Manchester Originals will be disappointed with their effort with the ball. The pitch was not easy to bat on and they had the arsenal to defend this one. Matt Parkinson was the pick of the bowlers for them as he bowled quite economically and got a timely wicket of Willey as well. However, this is a short game and the margin of error is quite low and that final set of five balls from Tom Hartley which went for 18 runs, when the match was on a tight rope cost Manchester the game.
Northern Superchargers had a tough task in front of them and they needed a good start with the bat, they got exactly that as they ended up scoring 45 in the Powerplay despite losing their skipper in that phase. Adam Lyth scored a flamboyant fifty notching up his runs at the strike rate of 170 and then young Brook showed his class yet again finishing the chase with 33 not out from 19 balls. Willey and David Wiese played perfect cameos too and that ensured that Northern Superchargers' finished this chase without much fuss in the end.
Northern Superchargers have paced this chase quite brilliantly! The pitch was a tricky one and it was not easy to hit from ball one but, Superchargers batters took calculated risks and have started off their campaign with a comfortable win in the end.
