Right then, that is it from this exciting game where London Spirit takes the points while the Northern Superchargers need to come back stronger in their next match. We have a doubleheader lined up for 19th August, Saturday where in the Women's Hundred 2023, Trent Rockets Women take on Birmingham Phoenix Women at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Then the same two teams go head -to head in the Men's Hundred 2023 at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT) while Southern Brave Women go up against Oval Invincibles Women at the same time. Then their Men's teams will play each other at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT), but you can always join us early for the build-up for all the games. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Ravi Bopara says that it was nice untill the rain came down as they were thinking they have to bowl around 20 with the wet ball but apart from that it was good. Adds that the wet ball makes it difficult to commit to the slower ball but the rain was not too heavy so it was not much of a problem. Mentions that they know that the wicket here sometimes is a bit tacky and change of pace works here. Tells that this was a must-win game for them and they knew they had to be at their best. Ends by acknowledging the crowd by saying that they have been brilliant.
Earlier in the game London Spirit batted first and scored 160 runs thanks to a brilliant innings of 53 from Adam Rossington. The third-wicket partnership of 66 between Adam Rossington and Matthew Wade helped the side score a fighting total. Matthew Wade too played a good hand of 42. The bowling from Northern Superchargers was good with Adil Rashid and Reece Topley picking up a couple each while Wayne Parnell took a wicket too.
The bowling unit performed well and defended the total. The veteran Ravi Bopara was superb as he picked up 4 wickets giving away just 21 runs. Liam Dawson was crucial too as he picked up a couple too giving away just 19 runs. Nathan Ellis took a wicket too.
The chase began with a flourish as Matthew Short and Adam Lyth walked out all-guns-blazing. The duo added 45 runs in the powerplay for the first wicket partnership. After the first wicket partnership, they lost wickets in a cluster and that dragged them back massively in the game. Harry Brook was sensational till he lasted for his innings of 44 runs but ever since his dismissal things began to run out of the hands of Northern Superchargers as run-scoring became more and more difficult for the remaining batters.
London Spirit climbs above Northern Superchargers in the table as they come through with a very good victory restricting the Northern Superchargers to just 147, winning this game by 13 runs.
