That’s it from the final league game of The Hundred 2023! The caravan now moves to the Eliminator which will be played on Saturday, 26th August. Manchester Originals will take on Southern Brave at Kennington Oval in that game in Men’s competition while the Women Eliminator will be played between NorthernSuperchargers Women and Welsh Fire Women. Join us for the build-up of both the games. Cheers!
Adam Milne is the HERO OF THE MATCH. He says that it is nice to get that new ball swinging around and get wickets upfront. Adds that the ball has swing a bit here and he wanted to use that. Tells that the batters did their job brilliantly and set them up to defend that. Mentions that it was a disappointing considering the players that they have but that happens in this format and you need to think forward. Says that he is forward to join the Kiwi squad for the England series and hopes to perform well there too.
London Spirit brought in Tim Southee for this game and the Kiwi got them off to a perfect start with a wicket in the very first delivery. He picked up three wickets in the game but rest of the Spirit bowlers were disappointing and going into the break, their batters needed to do heavy lifting. However, their top order was blown away in a matter of 10 deliveries and they were reduced to 71-9 at one point in time. Daryl Mitchell though showed some fight as he usually does and scored an entertaining 59 off 36 balls to reduce the loss margin for his team.
Birmingham Phoenix were in an aggressive mood in this game. They lost Will Smeed on the very first delivery with the bat but still managed to get a mammoth total of 185 on the board as their all their batters played an aggressive brand of cricket. The young Jamie Smith scored a fifty while it was the first 10-ball set of Adam Milne that left London Spirit high and dry. The Kiwi got three wickets in first 10 balls and Spirit could just not recover from it. The two leggies, Tanveer Sangha and Liam Livingstone bowled well as well and picked 5 wickets between them as Milne finished with a four-wicket haul. A comprehensive performance with both bat and ball and they have ended their campaign with a big smile on their faces.
Birmingham Phoenix have absolutely demolished London Spirit here! They have ended their series on a high much to the delight of the home crowd. London Spirit just could not show up both with the bat and ball and it sums up a disappointing season for them. Both teams have played some exciting cricket this season but were just not consistent enough to make it to the next round.
