Commentry
It is time for the final warm-up game of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 before the real action starts on the 10th of February. So, it is a final opportunity for India Women and Bangladesh Women to iron out their flaws and get their balance right and plans right ahead of the marquee event. Both the teams lost their first warm-up game and though India lost to Australia who were bound to be tough opponents, India need their batters to contribute more. None of the batters could show some mettle to stand in the middle and against South Africa too in the tri-series final, Indian batting faltered big time. This is a great opportunity for Indian batters to get runs under their belt and settle their batting combination ahead of the big-ticket opening game against Pakistan Women. Also, Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh, the two U-19 World Cup winners are crucial for India if they want to lift the senior title too because of their power game and let’s see how both young girls go about their business in this game. India’s bowling looks sorted with Shikha Pandey after struggling in the tri-series bowling a good spell against the Aussies in the last game but India really need to look at their death bowling if they want to win games against big teams like Australia and England in the World Cup. Bangladesh Women, on the other hand, were beaten rather comprehensively by Pakistan Women in their first warm-up game and they surely need to find a way to score more runs with the bat if they want to challenge big teams consistently. A lot will depend on how Nigar Sultana and Shamima Sultana go about their business but they too need to score runs at a better strike rate to put pressure on the opponents. The 16-year-old Shorna Akter is one exciting player to watch out for and this is another opportunity for her to show the world why she is rated so highly. Bangladesh have some quality bowlers in their ranks like Jahanara Alam and Salma Khatun but as mentioned before, they need their batters to start putting more runs on the board. So, a lot to gain for both teams from this warm-up fixture and let’s hope for an exciting contest.
