Astronomers have decided to add one second to 2016
Paris: Astronomers have decided to add one second to 2016 so that earth time should be matched with space-time. This addition is called “leap second” since 1972 till 2015, 26 seconds are added and it will be the 27th leap second. Astronomers are of the view that earth’s movement around its axis is getting slow and to match its movement with sensitive Atomic clocks it necessary to add a second with a gap if it would not be done telecommunication system can be affected. Space-time is also depended upon earth’s movement and it is necessary that they should be matched with each other. In order to look closely the earth’s axial rotation, a department is working in France naming international earth rotation and reference system service (IERS) and they decide to add a second at the end of the year. Last year a second was added in the midnight of 30th June and 1st July now it will be added in the midnight of 31st December and 1st January.
