Gilbert Baker has died at the age of 65. His Old friend Cleve Jones announced this news on social media. He was a San Francisco based activist. Baker was an artist and known for creating the rainbow flag representing gay rights. Jones said on twitter.

My dear friend in the world is gone and Clive Baker gave the world the rainbow flag and gave me too 40 years of friendship and love. So detail is not given about the reasons of Baker’s death or death place. According to the latest news updates and biography posted on his official website gilbert had been living in New York.

While Mr. Cleve tweeted a photo of Gilbert. In this photo Gilbert is standing with former president Barack Obama. Mr jones is inviting mourners to meet him under a rainbow flag. He is inviting in the Castro district of San Francisco on Friday evening to memorize his friend.

Gilbert baker was born in Kansas in 1951. He was stationed in San Francisco in the early 1970s. So Baker was stationed while serving in the US Army at the start of the gay rights movement. And according to the news updates and website biography he began making banners for anti war protest and gay rights at the request of Harvey Milk.

While Harvey Milk would become the first openly gay man elected to public office in California. When he won the 1977 race for a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

However the Milk rode under the first rainbow flags made by Gilbert Baker at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade in June 1978. Milk rode made just months before the politician was murdered by a former city supervisor.
