Now Australia has 2-0 lead in Davis Cup quarterfinals over the USA. Earlier Jordan Thompson beat Jack Sock and now John Isner faced a thriller from Nick Kyrgios.
Pat rafter Arena, Brisbane witnessed a classic match between Nick Kyrgios and John Isner last night. Nick Kyrgios won the match and Australia earned a 2-0 lead in Davis Cup quarterfinals against the mighty rivals the USA. He won straight sets and two of them tiebreakers on Friday 7-5, 7-6(5), 7-6(5)
21 years old broke John Isner two times in a span of 2 hrs and 24 minutes. He also out-aced Isner 20-15.
“That was a lot of fun. The crowd was unbelievable,” Kyrgios chuckled after the match.
Meanwhile on the same day, World No. 79 Jordan Thompson started the campaign in an astonishing way. He gave Australia a perfect start with victory over the world no 15 Jack Sock 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4. Jack sock is in tremendous form after he played Semifinals is Indian Wells and Quarterfinals in Miami Open championships.
After this win Thompson held the streak of unbeaten run in Davis cup, he won all his 3 matches played. He said, “It’s certainly up there with one of my best wins.I just had to play within myself, not trying to go too big, to try and wear him down. I had to believe I’m fit enough to do that.”
Australia will look to clinch the doubles too with Sam Growth/John Peers against Sam Querrey/Steve Johnson.
